Add 'Em Up is a challenging math game that combines the best elements of puzzle games, math games and strategy games to create an addictive and educational experience for everyone who plays. This is one of those unique math games that teaches your child how to do math while entertaining them without making the game so easy that parents can't enjoy it as well. This is a game you can play together with your children and have a great time while knowing that your children are getting something valuable out of the game. The colors are bright and colorful so even younger children or children bored easily by drab graphics will enjoy playing.
The goal of Add 'Em Up is simple, remove all of the blocks from the grid using simple math, but the game screen takes a little getting used to. To start, you are given a grid on the left side of the game screen with many of the numbers already filled in. On the right side of the screen you have your number queue. This shows you what letters are coming. The number at the top of the queue is the letter you have to place on the grid. Place that number on the grid so the numbers surrounding it add up to the sum of the number you are placing. If you have a nine, for example, look for an available spot on the grid with a six, a two and a three, or an eight and a one - anything that will add up to nine. This can be quite difficult, but with a little effort, you should be able to find a spot. If the numbers add up to the right sum, all of the numbers that formed that equation will disappear. If the equation is more than nine only the last number will count. Let's say the total sum of all the blocks was sixteen. Only the six would count.
Add 'Em Up also offers a variety of power ups to help you out along the way. Unlike many other math games online, not all of these power ups will be available to you unless you purchase the full version of the game. The power ups you have in the demo are; the bomb which can be used anywhere on the grid to destroy all of the surrounding blocks and the 'x' which allows to choose a number and remove all instances of the number from the board. You can also use hints when they're available by clicking on the flashing 'h' in the top left of the game screen. You can also choose from two modes of play in the demo. Classic Mode allows you to play without a time limit. If you can clear the board in the required number of moves, you win. If you can't, you lose. Pretty simple. Classic Mode is all about trying to get as many points as you can. You can set up 'Sweet Moves' to get extra points and move closer to a high score. The demo also offers five levels of Puzzle Mode. In Puzzle Mode you are given specific challenges you need to complete if you want to move on to the next level. It's quite a bit different than Classic Mode and it can be a lot more difficult. I would recommend playing Classic Mode a few times before you tackle puzzle mode.
Overall, Add 'Em Up is an excellent math game to play with your kids or to play by yourself if you want to hone your math skills. Your children will learn basic addiction and how to use logic to solve problems. It's one of the most addictive online math games, and definitely one of the most fun.
